"A few years ago I went on Amazon and bought a whole host of books that started with ’the secret language of…’. I thought these books will hold all sorts of symbolic meaning that I can use… and they did! 'The Secret Language of Birthdays', to be precise, this book has a title for each day of the year. The titles are brilliant! They’re humorous, but also to be held with pride. I felt these titles needed to come out of the books and started painting portraits of my friends and family. There is so much pleasure to be had in finding out your own title and thinking up a kindred image. My ideas came from talking with friends and it has been a really fun project”
