More Music and The Exchange Creative Community present the West End Fun Palace
More Music’s building The Hothouse in Morecambe and The Exchange Creative Community on West Street will become the West End Fun Palace on Saturday 1 October from 12noon until 4pm with free arts and science activities and performances running throughout the day.
Fun Palaces is a national initiative to bring science and arts together, many venues across the country will be filled with fun activities for all ages over the weekend.
It’s also More Music’s community open day so come along to the Hothouse and find out what happens here and have a go.
The West End Fun Palace will include many arts activities at both venues including Pendulum Painting (best described as a big time spirograph/Jackson Pollock mashup), Origami workshops, a dress-up as a scientists photo booth, an instrument-making (Saxotubes!), rock balancing, facepainting (paint each others faces!) and much more. There will be live music from the Melting Pot open mic stage, have a listen to the performers or get on stage and play a song yourself. You’ll also be able to write and perform scientific songs with local songwriter Frenchie.
Bleep! - an audio-visual installation that you can bring to life. Make your mark using effects, filters, loops and samples. Outside will be the East Street Gamelan, a large musical sculpture make of junk percussion that you can play as part of a group.
Follow the footprints to the Exchange where you can experience Magenta Monocle’s magical beach hut made especially for the recent West End Weekend,make a kaleidoscope, have your arm marbled or build a potato clock.
Also on Saturday the winning entries in the #fromorecambe with love postcard competition will be displayed at the Exchange and screen printed editions will be available for sale.
