Are you a young musician in the Colne area and would like meet other young local musicians? Want to jam out your favourite songs, and write your own material?  Are you in a band and would like to develop  your musical skills and knowledge? Do you want to form a new band? 
Come and join us for our music summer school at Colne Library, a FREE week-long series of free music workshops for 11-19 year olds, led by a group of experienced musicians, with the opportunity to perform a special public gig at the library on Friday during the Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival.
Activities will include:
- Songwriting 
- Performance skills 
- Guitar techniques (acoustic/electric) 
- Percussion/Drumming 
- Vocal techniques 
- Basic sound engineering 
- How to get gigs 
- Jam sessions (lots of!)

There will be masterclasses from jazz guitarist Neil C Young and drummer Richard Young, two of the most talented and in demand musicians in the North West.

Places are limited so please book your place by emailing Darren Leadsom at and letting us know your name, age, instrument played and musical interests. Please bring your own lunch to the rock school. We will provide a PA, drum kit, amps and some guitars but please bring your own guitars/basses if you can.

11am-1pm – Introductions, warm-up, deciding groups
1.45pm – 4pm – working in bands and songwriting 

11am-1pm – rehearsals, songwriting, tuition
1.45pm-4pm - Guitar masterclass with Neil C Young

11am-1pm Discover Arts Award (researching and sharing their arts inspiration).  Get a nationally recognised qualification from taking part in the week
1.45pm – 4pm – songwriting, rehearsals

11am –1pm -  Percussion workshop
1.45pm - Drumming masterclass with Richard Young

11am-1pm – rehearsals and songwriting
1.45pm – 4pm – gig preparations and rehearsals 
7pm – GIG!
