Let Spin

Formed in 2012, Let Spin forges the progressive post-jazz scenes of London and Manchester, bringing together four top genre-crossing instrumentalists from around the UK: bassist Ruth Goller (Acoustic Ladyland), saxophonist Chris Williams (Led Bib), guitarist Moss Freed (Moss Project) and drummer Finlay Panter (Beats & Pieces Big Band). Just two months after their first rehearsal and subsequent UK tour (supported by Jazz Services and Arts Council England), the band recorded their eponymous debut album, which lead to them being described as ‘a significant new UK jazz force’ (John Fordham, The Guardian). Followup 2015 album Let Go has garnered much critical praise with an extended feature in Jazzwise and a surge in radio play.

Musically egalitarian, the band’s output is varied without being wayward, diverse without feeling unfocused – riffs and grooves rub shoulders with rowdy free playing and wistful melodies, and despite the imaginative mixture of ideas there’s a cohesive element between the musicians that ties the overall sound together. It is this unique and winning formula that has rallied critics and electrified audiences around Europe. With three extensive UK tours behind them, appearances at several major European jazz festivals and radio support from BBC Radio 3, Jazz FM and BBC Radio Scotland, they have shown themselves to be a technically brilliant, raucous and refreshing live act with a momentum behind them that is rarely seen on the UK jazz scene.
