Firey Lights - Light Up Lancaster

A spectacular  performance at Lancaster Castle

Fri 6 November, 6pm-9.30pm

Firey Lights

Part of Light Up Lancaster

Lancaster Castle

An animated world of shadows, reflections, fire and metal.

Follow the story of Clare and Stan through a Grimm-style comic book adventure as four brand new ensembles tell a story…

Firey animation from Walk the Plank lines a pathway where you will experience new music created with over 60 musicians.

See the Courtyard of Flames and Reflections, featuring "Dwi Gambia Sari” Javanese Gamelan and The Watchtower Horn Section.

Expect enormous shadows and fire. Then wander through the Inner Space of Silence accompanied by overtone singers and a funky choir and see the magical shadow screens.

Into The Wing of Dreams, where 30 acoustic guitars are floating in space, alongside words and letters from the cell block.

Complete your journey with performances from the Morecambe East Street Gamelan, spoken word artists and multiple bassists.

Artistic Directors Pete Moser and Ben McCabe, story by Andy Smith. Find out the full programme for Light Up Lancaster at www.lightuplancaster.co.uk

BE A PART OF FIREY LIGHTS

Firey Lights will be an exciting performance piece taking place inside the spectacular Lancaster Castle and we want musicians to be part of it.

We're looking for singers, bass players, guitarists, wind players and percussionists to join ensembles in each space. The pieces will be simple to learn and some will be improvised, there will not be a musical score to read or learn.

Audiences will be taken on a journey through an animated world of shadows, reflections, fire and metal in the awesome space of Lancaster Castle. There will be remarkable firey animation from Walk the Plank - world famous for their Fire Garden installations.

We are making Four Spaces.

You could

  • Play on a beautiful Javanese Gamelan in the main castle courtyard
  • Create modal music on your horn to accompany the Gamelan
  • Sing new music that mixes overtone singing with groove based riffs
  • Be one of 20 guitarists playing in solos and duos inside A-Wing
  • Be one of many bass players accompanying a scrap gamelan and spoken work artists

If you would like to be a part of the show, please email Ben McCabe on ben.mccabe@moremusic.org.uk and let him know what rehearsals you can attend.  You only need to attend one rehearsal as well as the dress rehearsal and the performance itself.
