Music Theory

Develop your  understanding of how music works

Thursday afternoons
  • Ideal for: 18+, all abilities
  • Takes place on: Thursdays 4.30pm-6pm
  • Takes place at: The Hothouse, Morecambe
  • Music Leader: Ben Farmer
  • Cost per session: £2.50
These practical theory sessions will allow you to explore music theory in a way that is more relevant to musicians wanting to play music in pop, rock folk or jazz bands, as opposed to ‘classical’ music. Linked to the Trinity Popular Music Theory exams (optional), these sessions will give you the skills and the knowledge you need to understand why the music you love works and help you compose your own. N.B. Many music degrees now accept both Trinity and ABRSM theory examinations in their entry requirements.

Ben is a respected multi-instrumentalist, who has been teaching Music to 6th form students for the past 10 years. He is also an examiner for the Edexcel A-level Music examinations. He hails from Lancaster and has a degree in Popular Music from LIPA, as well as being a qualified teacher.
