Workshops in musical improviation

Wednesdays afternoons
  • Ideal for: Adults 18+ years, all abilities
  • Takes place on: Wednesdays, 3pm-5pm
  • Takes place at: The Hothouse, Morecambe
  • Music Leader: Stephen Grew
  • Cost per session: £5 (£3.50 concession)
The workshops open up an opportunity for mixed abilities in making music through pure improvisation. After Jigsaw's successful pilot project last term, Stephen Grew leads further workshops in making music using a variety of creative methods, from graphic scores, the use of drawings to make loose structures; to exploring alternative methods in making music spontaneously.

Who's the leader?

Stephen Grew has worked as an improviser for the last twenty years, touring nationally and internationally. He has recorded hundreds of hours, working with leading improvisers from the British free improviser scene, Evan Parker, Keith Tippett and Howard Riley to name a few. More recently shortlisted by Sound & Music for the Royal Festival Hall, Organist Residency.

What's more?

No need to be able to read music or even any prior experience in improvising, just turn up and have fun with like-minded musicians and a dancer.

How do I join?

Just come along to a session, no booking necessary.
