Breathe Deeply

Crossing, crossing the border - Crossing, crossing the border
Breath deeply, breathe deeply
Crossing, crossing the border, I'm leaping the faith
Crossing, crossing the border, I'm leaving this place
Breath deeply, breath deeply, breath deeply, breath deeply

Lemn's words from the first song written in this odyssey, my own LONG WALK.
Over seven years it has taken me to Beijing (3 visits), Shanghai (5 visits), Fuzhou (3 visits), Xiamen (3 visits), Fujian, Shantou, Guangzhou, Shenzen, Hong Kong (8 visits). I have completed many shows, workshops and training sessions in all of those places and built up a significant network of cultural partnerships within the city of Hong Kong.

We have invited 2 international visits to the UK and Eric Ng (from CCCD) is about to spend 4 weeks at the Hothouse as part of his Clore Leadership course in the UK. We have gathered funding from many sources including the UKTI Passport to Export scheme, British Council, HKADC, private benefactors, ACE and a significant amount of earned income for 'doing work'.

On one of the first research visits in South East China  (from where the cocklers came) my partner the visual artist Zhu Luming coined the phrase - 'bringing a positive outcome from a deep tragedy' as a way of explaining our visit. I realised on that visit that if the 'project' was going to be worthwhile it would be ten years work.

There are now another three years to go and the 'map' that I started to construct over the last 2 weeks with Mok Chiuyu from CCCD is, I think, realistic and achievable.

I travel home, knowing that I will return
I travel home, wanting to return with other musicians from More Music
I travel home full of fascination and a sense of achievement.

Crossing, crossing the border
Crossing, crossing the border
Breath deeply, breathe deeply
