To my friends in Georgia

My final project for More Music this summer is to co-chair the Community Music Conference for ISME. We're running it in Tbilisi, Georgia before the main conference in Baku and I am off to do the final setting up - venues, translators, trips, food, hotels and all. Connecting with local musicians, workshop leaders and academics and trying to make the event really connect to the country.
Our theme is Inspiring Curiosity: Celebrating Diverse Voices of Community Music and we have over 40 delegates coming from all over the world to join with the locals.

Many years ago my great friend Adrian Mitchell went to Georgia for a poetry festival and wrote this lovely poem which I set to music...

My friends in Georgia

The Good Old Moon drank a bottle of wine
And she began to sing

The fine old tree drank a bottle of wine
And he began to sing

The warm black sea drank a bottle of wine
And she began to sing

The strange old bridge drank a bottle of wine
And it began to sing

The tattered little book drank a bottle of wine
And it began to sing

The dog with one ear drank a bottle of wine
And he began to sing

And the child with the broken doll in her arms
Drank a breastful of milk
And she began to sing

For the love of Georgia
For the love of Georgia
A land with a heart
As big as the good old wine drinking moon.

Here's to new friends and adventures !
