We are exploring international projects particularly in China, the Far East and Brazil with an aim to translate and develop community music practice within new contexts and share practice with new partners, to bring new musical and pedagogical ideas back to the UK, to allow musicians space for personal development and reflection and to develop exchange projects.
The work started following the Morecambe Bay tragedy of 2004 and has included projects, performances, training sessions and partnerships development in Hong Kong and mainland China which have been seeking to develop a positive social outcome from a very personal tragedy.
This international work has resonated in the north west with a programme of Chinese cultural development including the creation of a Chinese Community Orchestra, performances at seasonal events and many schools projects. A programme of work in Brazil is starting to grow from a relationship with an organisation that focuses on community transformation through cultural development in Amazonia.
