Walking Down The Street Gamelan

More Music’s Walking Down the Street Gamelan is a beautiful sounding, collection of recycled instruments for pre-school children aged 0 – 5 and their families.

Suspended from a variety of structures and shapes, drums, guitars, chimes and marimbas are paired with computer keyboards, flasks, draining racks and colanders. Time to MAKE MORE MUSIC!

Music made on the gamelan is exploratory and improvised as a rule. Musicians follow the children’s lead, reinforcing, mirroring, jamming. Occasional outbursts of song and applause.

Install takes about 2 hours and includes an event shelter covering some of the structures to offer people protection from rain and sun. We surround the space with bunting suspended from stakes that we also provide.

Capacity is around 6 families at a time – usually run as a drop in rather than timed sessions. Running time – up to 6 hours with breaks.

As seen at Catch the Wind Kite Festival, Morecambe and Festival of Making, Blackburn.
